Revised Posts Coming-Parents & Students Beware!

I apologize for not having updates this week. The technology was not on our side. However - this week we are finishing the presentations for the Hero's Journey! So far many of the projects have been wonderful and a lot of fun to see.

Our next work is the classic play Romeo & Juliet. You will be asked to keep your big old textbook at home to read. I will have copies in class to refer to. If you want to buy your own copy (and everyone should own one at some point - let me know), I can arrange a discount and extra credit!!! We will NOT study this play as a 'regular old book' -- rather we will dig into it from a performers point-of-view.

You will learn how to fight with swords, how to speak verse, how to fall in love and how to die with dignity. We will make Leonardo feel ashamed! Yes, we will see that great version of the play - as well as many others.

Get ready to work your buns off.

Oh - and a new round of blogs will carry us into the next few weeks beginning this weekend.

Hero Project - Due January 17, 2008

WRITING
You are to create a PowerPoint Presentation that tells the story of your hero's adventure.

Be Sure to:
Have a minimum of 9 Slides for the 9 Stages (A Minimum of 1 Slide per Stage)
The text should only be a MAXIMUM of a few lines for each slide
Consider having 1 graphic or drawing accompany each slide to assist showing the action of each stage.
You may need to scan in the graphics / drawings if you are creating them yourself.
You may need more than 1 graphic / drawing to show the action.
When you design the presentation think about how children's books are designed - in many ways this is what the PowerPoint presentation will resemble
Consider the use of color, sound and the different transitions between slides that PowerPoint offers. (If you look at the Star Wars films, the directors of the different films use a lot of the same transitions - fades, wipes, clockwise wipes, etc.)

EDITING and REVISING
Run the text through the spell check
Practice narrating the slide show. If your narration sounds clunky – you may need to go back and substitute words that look right on paper – but don’t communicate what you want when you read aloud.

PRESENTING
You will present the PowerPoint document and tell your story

TURN IN PROJECT
You will have to print out the slideshow as a “Handout” with 3 slides per pace
Hand Write in the notes section what stage of the Hero’s Journey is being presented in each slide.
To print handouts go to:
File – Print
Drop Down Menu – Print What
Choose – Handouts
