Original Hero Project - Notes

In the WRITING JOURNAL section of your binder, you should have completed the following tasks in class and for homework:

Created an original HERO
  • Created a detailed background and vital stats about the Hero
  • Created an example of an everyday life for your hero -- this will serve as inspiration for the "Ordinary Beginnings"

  • Created a VILLAIN

  • Created a background (Why are they bad? What do they do that could threaten the peace of your hero's everyday life?)

  • Drafted bullet points for "The Call to Adventure" and for "Crossing the Threshold"
Visualized your Hero and Villain and sketch them

  • Created GIFTS for your hero -- What special gifts (supernatural or not) does the hero receive to help them on their adventure?

  • Created ALLIES and/or a MENTOR for your hero -- Who are these people? How can they assist the hero on their quest?

  • Drafted bullet points for "The Journey" and for "Trials/Challenges" that the hero must face BEFORE they get to the final battle with the Villain!

  • Drafted bullet points for "The Final Conflict" that the hero must engage with the villain.

  • Drafted bullet points for "The Return" -- where the hero comes home victorious!
  • In January you are to Create a Powerpoint Presentation that tells the story of your hero's adventure. Be Sure to:
  • Have a minimum of 9 Slides for the 9 Stages (A Minimum of 1 Slide per Stage)
  • The text should only be a MAXIMUM of a few lines for each slide
  • Consider having 1 graphic or drawing accompany each slide to assist showing the action of each stage.
  • You may need to scan in the graphics / drawings if you are creating them yourself.
  • You may need more than 1 graphic / drawing to show the action.
  • When you design the presentation think about how children's books are designed - in many ways this is what the powerpoint presentation will resemble
  • Consider the use of color, sound and the different transitions between slides that powerpoint offers. (If you look at the Star Wars films, the directors of the different films use a lot of the same transitions - fades, wipes, clockwise wipes, etc.)
  • Run the text through the spell check - and practice narrating it. You will present it and turn it in.
