The Big Field
By Mike Lupica
As of this reading I would recomend the book The Big Field, by Mike Lupica, because it is a hard book to put down. You could really imagine what the author is describing, like what the characters look like or what a setting looks like. There is so much intensity in the book, you can tell when the tension really starts to build on page 109 to 111 when Hutch completely loses it and attacks Daryl. You do not see it coming, but you did see Hutch's anger start to get worse and worse against Daryl that practice and after one stupid comment BOOM out of no where Hutch completely levels him. You caan also see with every chapter Hutch is geting more and more dissapointed in his Dad. His dad was once a great shortstop who was on his way to greatness when he injured his shoulder. On page 120 Hutch's Dad revealed it was't his shoulder that made him quit it was that he didn't thnk he was good enough, his dad said it killed him. His dad loved baseball, and now tries to forget about it. It's what is makeing the gap between Hutch and his dad even bigger.

Rulers of The Darkness
By Harry Turtledove
As of this reading, I would recommend the book Rulers of The Darkness, by Harry Turtledove, because this book is very exciting and fun to read. This is the fourth book in this series and there is a lot of action. One example of this action is in one of the battles, “An Unkerlanter behemoth crew blazed down an Algarvian beast” (pg. 355). This is one example of one of the action-filled battles. This part of the book the Algarvians are making a final push, but failed and are now getting pushed back. Another example is at a village being held by the Unkerlanters, “He did know he didn’t want to have to try commanding a regiment himself if an Algarvian sniper did pick off Recared.” (pg. 339). No one is safe out on the battlefield and no one has control. This book is for anyone who loves action and a good storyline. If you are also interested in world war 2 you would like this book because it’s based on the war, except that it has magic and mythical beasts.

Pretty Little Liars
Sara Shephord
As of this reading, I would recommend the book Pretty Little Liars, by Sara Shephord, because it is a fun read and it is impossible to put down. Any teenage girl would enjoy reading about other typical lives, and everyday issues. Although, in the beginning four girls find out that their best friend was murdered on the night of their annual sleepover where they got into a fight (page 13). This book is kind of like a mystery. It keeps you wanting to read to see what happens next. There is also a teenage love twist between all of the girls and their boyfriends. This is why teenage girls might like reading this book.

The Red Kayak
By- Priscilla Cummings
As of this reading, I would recommend the book The Red Kayak, by Priscilla Cummings,
because the book is based on the friendship of three teenagers. The book starts out with one of the characters, Digger, upset with a family that bought his Grandfather’s house. (Page 12) He comes up with the idea of getting back at them by playing a joke on the father. He convinces his two friends to help him. The main character, Brady, wasn’t going to help but then gets his father’s drill to do “the job.”(page98) Another reason why this book is a good choice to read because it shows how peer pressure can be overpowering. That is something we all deal with and taught about every day. Don’t let friends influence your decisions. Brady fell into the trap of peer pressure. (Page 102) As I read the book I could see how it all came about. The pressure was so strong that Brady started to feel guilty about what he had gotten himself into. Unfortunately what started out as a joke ending where an innocent child died, four families lives were dramatically changed. All of their lives changed forever. (Page 154) Brady was the one who had to get rid of the drill. That is when the three friendships ended. It was sad but realistic. This happens everyday to someone somewhere. What started out as a joke always ends up bad in the end. The book was fast reading, interesting and I really recommend it. As you read it there are times you can predict what will happen, other times you become shocked at what happens and in the end amazed with what happens to Brady, Digger and J.T.

Shadow of The Hegemon
Orson Scott Card
As of this reading, I would not reccomend the book Shadow of The Hegemon, by Orson Scott Card, because you need to have read the 1st book, Enders Shadow, to understand what is going on. However if you have already read Enders Shadow I would deffinitly reccomend this book because it is a great follow-up of Enders Shadow. It follows the story on Earth where Enders jeesh is kidnapped and used as weapons under Achilles power. You can find proof of this on pages 74-75. "We all know who you are," said Petra. "You're Achilles." this quote is on page 75 when Achilles confronts them and this is a real climax in this chapter because in Enders Shadow Achilles is the one who Bean gets to confess that he murdered dozens of people and is sent to a mental institution. I would deffinitly say that if you are into non-stop action books and you already read Enders Shadow you should pick up this book.

All's Fair in love, war and Highschool
by Jannette Rallsion
As of this reading, I (would or would not) would recommend the book All's Fair in Love, War, and High School by Janette Rallison because it goes through things that every girl in highschool pretty much expirences. On page 68 Samantha says the wrong thing to a boy she likes. Her friend realizes what a fool she made of herslef and rolls her eyes. So many girls go through this. On page 83 Samantha wishes that her best friend Chelsea was there with her. Chelsea didn't realize that there was a important meeting about the election that Sam was in. Alot of girls have blonde moments. And Chelsea made mistake by forgetting an important part in her best friends life. Alot of girls would like this book because it explains how girls have so many problems that really aren't that big. Like on page 84 Sam was left alone in the hallway. She was mad at her friends because she didn't want to walk alone. This is something that I would probably be mad at too, even though it isn't a serious problem.

Impulse
By Ellen Hopkins
As of this reading I would and would not recommend the book Impulse, By Ellen Hopkins. I would not recommend it because its kind of confusing. There are three main characters, Vanessa, Tony, and Conner, and it gets confusing because i forget witch person they are talking about. The beginning of this book is a little bit boring, but as you get into it it gets better. Some people might find this book good, but i think its boring. I would recommend this book because is about three kids who tried to kill themselves, and some parts in the book are really interesting. On page 65, Tony askes Vannessa, "So what brings you to our home away from home?" he is asking her that because they are all at a psychotic hospital. Some parts are good but I am not really getting into it.
Thomas Bittlemann
Period 3
Mr. Brannigan
3/16/08
As of this reading, I would recommend the book For One More Day, by Mitch Albom, because… it will inspire you to live your life and have no regrets of what you do. “ I left my family shortly thereafter- or they left me. I am more ashamed of that than I can say,”[Page 5] quote Chick Benetto. He’s talking about his shame for what he did to his family. Because of his depression he abandoned everything he loved and turned into a nobody. “ A year after my mother died, I did the dumbest thing I’ve ever done financially. I let a saleswoman talk me into an investment,” again quoted by Chick. He started drinking more he tells the person he speaks to and he just kept getting more and more depressed. This book is all about mistakes this man made, and how he wished he could change them and spend another day with his mother. He gets this chance, and it shows you a glimpse of how much a second chance can help and change your life. ‘ When you’re rotten about yourself, you become rotten to everyone else, even those you love.” [Page 37] This means to me that taking the wrong chance, and going down the wrong path can turn into bad regrets in the long term of your life. But these mistakes need to be forgotten. Regretting your life will ruin your life. You don’t always get second chances.

The last book in the universe
By Rodman Philbrick
As of this reading I would recommend the book the last book in the universe, by Rodman Philbrick because it always leaves you on a cliffhanger. The book is very exciting and the author describes everything so vividly that you feel like you are there. On page 119 Spaz is being chased by Billy Bizmo and his gang and it is very exciting and you don't want to stop reading. What happens is Spaz barely escapes when he saw a sewer that he went down and tricked Billy and his gang. Also on page 130 Spaz is caught by Billy and is taken down for deactivation. I have no idea how he will get out of this one but I cant wait to read the next section. During this section the author talks to the reader and tell you what is going on instead of putting you in the action. I do like the variety of ways each way it is being described, because it adds another twist. That is why I recommend this book.

Perks of Being a Wallflower
Stephen Chobosky
As of this reading, I would recommend the book Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chobosky because it can honestly relate to an everyday high school student. It covers topics on everything. I enjoyed reading it because some of the topics it covered I am not comfortable talking to my parents about so it was good to hear about it. Topics such as sex, drugs, being gay things that we normally don’t feel comfortable talking to your parents about. I also recommend it if you are in a position such as help with drugs or needing to see a different view on being gay. This opens your eyes and shows you how other people feel and how something’s we have to accept whether we like it or not. This book is filled with every emotion. I am a kid that doesn’t enjoy reading that much but the seconded I picked up this book I did not want to put it down for a second. It makes you want to cry, laugh out loud, smile. It really opened my eyes to way new things. It’s the best book I have every read. It’s just inspiring.

Saved
Jack Falla
As of this reading, I would recommend the book Saved, by Jack Falla, because… This book isn't just about hockey it's about life. Such as on page 20 when they were talking about life as a widower. From reading this I realized the different views on being a widow some people forget about their life and give up and stop trying to find someone new. But others get right back on the horse and try and start a new life. This book would also be good for someone who loves hockey because it is an awesome book for a hockey player. There is so far in 25 pages action packed hockey games and all around hockey stuff. This book is as I expected.....amazing. I suggest this book to all hockey players, and I guess people that like a little love in their books because I can diffidently tell it is revolving around a hockey player’s social life and love life.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell:Operation Barracuda
By David Michaels
As of this reading, I would recomend the book Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell:Operation Barracuda,
By David Michaels, because it makes you visualize the book. It makes you visualize the characters, the scenes, and the characters voices. One page that makes you visualize is on page 3. On this page Sam Fisher explains how he obtained a 1996 Ford Explorer XL with 120,000 miles on it from the American Embassy. Another page that shows visualization is on page 5 where Sam Fisher quickly moves through the brush to the edge of the gate and lies flat on the snow, and how his uniform is costum-made for a Russian or Ukrainian winterand blends into the snow perfectly. I would also reccomend this book to readers who enjoy to read books about wars, undercover seceret agents, and other Tom Clancy books. This is why I reccomend this book.

Forever
By: Judy Blume
As of this reading, I would recommend the book Forever, by Judy Blume, because it explains the life of a teenager who falls in love with two people. In the story it is about a girl, Katherine, who goes to a party and meets a senior named Michael. They soon start dating, and their tagline in the book is forever. They believe that love can last forever. Their parents though, seem that it is just a "hook up" and that this all not meant to be. For example, on page 209, Katherine writes a letter to Michael trying to explain that she kissed another boy, and is stuck in between love and forever. Hopless, she meets up with her boyfriend after not seeing him for a few weeks, and Michael puts a stop to this, "forever". Recommending this book to anyone is not intended. I would personally tell teenagers ready to read such explicit and graphic love stories. This deffinetly changed the way I think about love and "young" love. This book is the type of novel that changed your life. It never once lets you down, except the ending of course. Judy Blume deffinetly got her point across in my mind. Forever isn't forever.

Glass
Ellen Hopkins
As of this reading, I would recommend the book Glass,by Ellen Hopkins because it gets a great point across. On page 35, it tells how Bree had many stuggles in life but she just put them off to the side and wait for good things to happen. On page 115, she finds herself stuck between a few decisions. One decision is to go to a party, and the other is to watch her baby and be the responible parent that she supposed to be. but she chooses to do the wrong thing and go to the party. In this book, a lot of the points that the author is trying to get across is, do the right thing and think twice before anything. Think of the consequences and think before you act.

Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea
by Jules Verne
As of this reading I would recommend the book Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, by Jules Verne, because it is a very interesting book that always has something exciting waiting, until it pops up. On page 123 to 124 Professor Arronax and Captain Nemo are sea hunting, when all of a sudden two huge sharks popped up. This happened randomly because they were 20 feet from the safety of their submarine. The 2 men had to crawl on their stomachs to avoid being seen by the sharks. Also in the beginning of the book, on page 52 Ned Land, Professor Arronax, and Consiel are all captured and pulled into the mysterious submarine, by Captain Nemo's men. This happened after they all fell off of the Abraham Lincoln, Naval ship. They
found a mysterious figure on the surface of the water, so they climbed on it. The next thing they know, they were in a dark cell under water.
Nick Galante
Homeboyz
Alan Laerence Sitomer
As of this reading I would not recommend this book Home Boyz, by laerence Sitomer because the book is pretty interesting in the beginning. But then when you go towards the middle of the book when it is suppose to be the best part of the book it was the most boring part of the book. They did not have as many action scenes in the book that I would have liked of saw. The end was horrible and I thought the book jumped all over the place. The book would be talking about how teddy was a master mind and then jump into a car in the middle of no where. The book had a couple good parts but mostly bad parts. If you like book that are long a boring than go right ahead and go get this book. The book is about gangs and what happens when you back stab you own gang. This is my opinion about the book I think every one else will fell the same way.

My name is America
By Pat Seamus Flaherty
As of this reading I would recomend the book My name is America, by Pat Seamus Flaherty, because it was a great book. This book is a journal about a yung man who joins the military and fights for his country. This book takes you through the battle field and his life story using great detail. This book is suppenceful and filled with action, but on the other hand this story also touches your emotions. On page # 99 during my favorite part of the book PAt is in battle when a bullet impacts him. He feels his side and it is wet. Pat thinks he has been shot but has really been shot in his canteen. This was supprising because I thought he might die. Also on page #155 Pat's good friend played the saxaphone at the airbase and everyone loved it. This shows that the book is fun during hard times and makes you smile and frown because there are many people at war who have great talents.
